Further information
This was the lower of the two copies of the indenture, as shown by its present top having a wavy line. Given its reference to Henry VIII as ‘late sovaraigne’ and its use in the bailiffs’ accounts for 1548–1549, this must have become redundant very soon after its production.
The top section (50-65mm) and the bottom (50mm) are both folded in and stitched down (the dimensions given for the height exclude these folded sections). The right-hand side has also been folded over but not stitched (the dimension given for the width includes this folded section).
A long parchment strip has been sewn to the right-hand side at the time of binding to provide a tie. There are also several tears to the parchment which have been repaired by stitching.
